I use MPS8099 npn or MPS8098 pnp. Quiet, high gain, $8 a hundred for the 8099. Have enough Vceo to stand off a 70 v rail without damage. The 8098 were $35 a hundred, so pnp I use MPSA56 that were $11 a hundred. I build primarily single ended amps to cut the number of wires I have to solder, since all pcb's are imports from somewhere I don't respect. My transistors were packaged in PHI before that fab was shut down.

thanks for reply : I didn't expected MPS8099 in the race but I will add in opportunity list to play with. :c_flag:

surfing among posts I also found this list :
Single MPSA18
LTP BC550C, BC560C
Cascode KSC3503, KSC1845
CM BC560C, KSA992
VAS BC560C, KSA1381E
CCS KSC3503D

Any correction or completion

MPS8099/8599 aren’t as universally available as they used to be. They were back in the day, and they are low noise. Even the MPSA06/56 are being phased out in TO-92 (still widely available in surface mount). My go-to input transistors have been the C1945/A992, for both singletons and diff pairs in mission-critical circuits. Not long ago I did a lifetime buy of C1008/A708 for duties which call for the A06/A56. I don’t even expect them to be around very much longer.

Yes most transistors listed are obsolete. Only C1845/A992 and BC550C are available through usuals providers. A good raison to record alerts on local ads :radar:

Audio market may be less attractive for big semiconductors company. May be opportunity for specialized ones (That, Cool Audio...).

did not found noise level for MPS8099/8599 and C1008/A708...

add MPSA06/56 for single/LTP
add from PM, 2SC2240/2SA970 for LTP

More opinions :scratch2:
