Default Vishay Cmf55 vs Rn55

Just before I submit an order I take it that the Vishay Cmf55 and Rn55 are the same part even though they are rated at different power? Thus will be fine to use the rn part rated at mil spec to 1/8 watt in an amplifier that needs 1/4 watt?

Thanks

The RN55 just carry a power derating for military spec - I believe that otherwise they are the same resistor as the CMF55. Both fine resistors.

A quote from the CMF datasheet ( http://www.vishay.com/docs/31018/cmfind.pdf ):

"Vishay Dale Model CMF is also available as Military Qualified Styles RN and RL. See Vishay Dale’s CMF (Military RN and RL) datasheet (www.vishay.com/doc?31027) for the MIL-SPEC ratings / attributes. (Except for marking, the Industrial and Military versions are exactly the same)" (emphasis added)

So, excuse my slight ignorance here, reading across the data sheets the cmf55 is exactly the same resistor as the rn55 except for markings?

They are the same physical part other than the markings, but the military version has different specifications,
such as less power dissipation, etc.

As long as I can carry the specs over and apply them to the mil spec ones then I'm good to go

You can rely on the CMF specs for diy. The Mil spec ensures performance in harsh ambient conditions (derated).

CMF are magnetic, RN of non-magnetic end caps.

Either part can be supplied an nonmagnetic. Such a part would have -143 as a suffix on the pert number.
"Utilizes non-magnetic brass or nickel silver end caps (as appropriate for value and tolerance)"
