Recommendations please. Octal sockets.

Starting a preamp build and need to source 5 sockets: all 8 pin, pcb mount. Ive read that ceramic is superior to plastic, and to avoid gold plated and Chinese products.

H'ever, everything I see seems to be Chinese, except expensive used or nos.

Suggestions welcome.

Nothing wrong with Chinese gold plated, they are very well made.
Is it International Octal you require for 6SN7 type valves?

Good to know there is support for the Chinese stuff; it's widely available. The gold warning concerned using gold sockets with non-gold pin tubes.

Gold is not as good at conducting as copper but I have used hundreds in my workshop building 50's and 60's amplifiers. They seem OK for both small signal pre amp and high current power supply use. Haven't had one return for over 10 years!

I use Russian made octal sockets. You can get either the type that attach with a spring ring under the top plate or with the normal screw mount ring holder for either top or bottom mount.

I love these things. Very well made and not expensive. Given the choice of those or Chinese, I will choose Russian every time.
