259 is really expensive for a 10 MHz scope with a round CRT. Figure $400 (including shipping) will get you a nice TEK, HP, Sencore or Hitachi with 100MHz bandwidth, multiple channels, multiple and delayed sweep etc.

Lots of places in the UK for second hand 'scopes ... For the same money you could get an old but much higher spec instrument. If you like I can post some links to second hand dealers (UK) or you could try eBay. If you want new I doubt if you would find cheaper than E260. Dave - about to buy a second hand tek 'scope !! |

You can buy a NEW Tektronix TDS2014 4-channel, color, with FFT for about that much. You can buy a demo 2245 for that much.

No reason not to buy second hand, as long as it's from a reputable dealer who will guarantee operation and calibration. For reference, I just paid about what you're considering for a used Kikusui, 6 channel, delayed sweep, 100MHz, with probes, and calibrated. It replaces my old Tek, which is sadly starting to fade away.

Last year I bought a perfect second hand Tektronix 2235 oscilloscope for 255€.
It's a 100MHz scope, and it have a delayed sweep option too. It may be a bit old, but it's working perfect. So it will be a good choice to go for a second hand scope, you can find many good ones in the UK. Over here in Norway the second hand marked for scopes is a bit small, but I have seen advertisings for UK second hand stores for electronic equipment who are selling scopes. Maybe you can try one of them or alternatively post a thread where you ask for a second hand scope. |

The prices look 'typical' of UK prices (compared to US prices) ie $1=£1 ![]() There are a few existing threads on diyAudio recomending different brands / models if you need to choose something. IMHO 60MHz / analogue / 2 channel will do most things for a reasonable price. Dave ![]() |

An old second hand Tek is usually a really good scope. But be warned, if you buy second hand check that it is in good working order. All these scopes from 20 years old and later contain a lot of hybrid (thick film) circuits. Tektronics don’t have these anymore. So when one is broken you are lost.
When a scope of Tektronics is not current anymore, special spare parts become quickly rare. That's a pity ![]() |
