That is not entirely true as a new mixer will have mediocre opamps too.

Just don't expect real good opamps in mixers.

Well i don't need "real good opamps", the ones it has inside sound just fine as far as music is concerned. I just want less hissing on the mike inputs.

Just as I said: you need real good opamps ( which will hiss less than the current ones). Also metalfilm resistors are recommended.

Although it's an interesting project ( at least for educational purposes) I would only start when I would have a good use for the mixer.

Maybe i just need better mikes, ones that don't need the trim turned all the way up. I'll inspect that later on... First thing first, i'll get all channels working and add phantom power. This should greatly expand my selection of mikes.

is there a recent replacement for k157ud2 opamp, i have an old eq that uses them

This is a russian type, right?
If you cannot find an exact replacement you could make a small adapter board and use a standard dual OPV. You probably also omit the compensation caps then (if used).
