Havent really bought many cd's over the last 15 years, so a question.
If they say the cd has been remastered (yes I know what it means) does it usually indicate an improvement or not ?
As in, should i get the original or the remastered of a particular disc ?

It's my opinion that a remaster is only as good as the remastering engineer on the project. It is, of course, an attempt at improving the sound of an album or simply adapting the sound for a new medium (ie. from magnetic tape to digital pcm) but I believe there is rarely an objective improvement, perhaps simply a difference.

That said, I really do like the DCC Remasters by Steve Hoffman.

Also have an aem6000 amp sitting here that I'm not using at present (space constraints :( ).

Now I've been hit with yet another delay, because the timber (veneer) is a new line they dont have it in 25mm yet.
Will be 2-3 weeks, then it gets cut, then I can do rest of the machining.
Waited four months gathering bits, another 1-2 won't matter.

AND Mrs Oldfeild's cd is on back order.....
Did get Kate bush 'hounds of love', good but not as good as ariel.
P-floyds 'wish you were here', I like very much.
And KD langs 'absolute torch and twang', do like her voice, very smooth and never over reaches her ability, when my finances recover will look at some more kd.

If you want somehting with a more a world flavor or just not "me and my piano/acoustic guitar", check out Vas or Niyaz (same singer Azam Ali, she is amazing). Also Dead can Dance who mix celtic and world styles, Lisa gerrard is amazing as well.
The more recent the albums the better for both groups. Dead can dance live albums are really good. no squealing. they sound like studio albums.

Also I am not sure why this is, but nobody mentioned Bjork. She is another atypical singer with great music. One of the best female artists around. Homogenic and vespertine are the best albums.

Hi,
If you try Portishead and you like it then I would highly recommend Massive Atack up until the Mezzanine album, you could also try Tricky. All these are from Bristol and have their distinct laid-back sounds.
David Bowies' Changes collection is a great listen. You could try Louise Attaque and Tarmac from France, excellent. If you like these then Noir Désir is excellent also.
If you like a nice crisp relaxing jazzy/latino feel then get Rivancha del Tango by the Gotan Project, nice modern electronic twist, cool.
