Unfortunately my favourite singer died in seventies of passed century. He sings so emotionally with great and rich voice, glorifying the power of love and faith.
I think that even a flight timetable, as a lyrics, performed by Donny Hathaway would not be boring.
The second is Jacques Brel, especially performing "L'homme de la Mancha" (Man of La Mancha) and songs "Ne me quitte pas", "L'Amsterdam".

What a question, where shall we start? Maybe with a sadly
incomplete list from the top of my head and in no particular
order.

Female:
Lotte Lehman, Maria Callas, Kirsten Flagstad, Frida Leider,
Nanny Larsen-Todsen, Marjorie Lawrence, Martha Fuchs,
Margareta Klose, Irmgard Seefried, Nellie Melba,
Maria Müller, Frida Hempel, Zinka Milanova, Martha Mödl

Male:
Jussi Björling, Lauritz Melchior, Hans Hotter, Tito Gobbi,
Giuseppe di Stefano, Franco Corelli, Leonard Warren,
Fernando Corena, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Emanuel List,
George London, Gunnar Graarud

You can google anything you can type, but if you get any hits
is another question. :)

Googling all of the names I listed should give you
enough links to keep you busy reading for next few months,
atl least, although some of them will probably only be
mentioned in conecction with a few recordings. Beware however,
they are all opera singers, or were, since most of them are no
longer alive.

Inva Mula Tchako! diva dance extraordinaire! any idea what other stuff she has acutally done. Im sure I could google this and find out myself, but have you got any recommendations of her work which is particularly good?

I take it she plays carmen

Unfortunately not ! She has the role of "Micaela". The part of Carmen is sung by Angela Gheorghiu (the lady on the cover). Angela's got some bad reviews for this one because people prefer mezzo sopranos for this role. Because Inva Mula is also a soprano like Angela Gheorghiu she might possibly refrain from ever recording this role.
