It actually seems to be some sort of Italian table game, references are rather obscure and ancient, also referred to as tric trac. Apparently it was popular centuries ago and seems to somewhat similar to checkers. It may have been a Roman game.

Most of the references I found were Italian writings from the 16th - 17th century and some 19th century French references. They are quite vague.

I actually have no idea. Best shot at Google.

I am surprised it took 9 years for someone to respond to the question. It did come up on Google at the very top of search.. LOL Talk about necrothreads, the joy of a forum where nothing ever expires.
