Hi all, I'm a long time reader of diyAudio, first time posting though.

I'm looking to build a couple of speakers over the summer, and I've been looking at a lot of the projects here. Basically i'm trying to beat commercial speakers in terms of quality and price. I spent a couple of hours at the best buys and the circuit citys, and I figured out I don't like boomy systems. I prefer clear sound with bass that does not distort when the volume goes up..

So the system I liked was the Klipsch Quintet III, along with the
Sub-10

These cost $514 and $400 respectively. That's way out of my budget...

So i'd like similar (or better) quality for a lot less... I guess my final budget would be approx $300. I don't have to have a whole 5.1 system, a really good 2+sub would be ok for now. The room size is small to medium (university apartments.... not huge) and I would use them for music, HT, and gaming (occasional only).

I appreciate any pokes in the right direction. Oh and I'm a Masters Electrical Engineering student, so I'm not afraid of circuits and schematics and soldering irons..

Thank you

Spybld,

Your best bet is probly to check out the Bose Beater thread lots of satelite ideas in there. Im new to this forum also but it seems if theres a thread thats similar to what your aksing about you probly wont get many hits on your post. (i may be wrong lol)

Although id like to see a thread start about building Horn types like the Klipsch. Horns have a great look....

Good luck

and dont forget everyone loves build pictures.....
