only goes so far.I would mount that thingie in a way that it could be removed later on (when your kids are old enough to take care).
I don't know how its sonic impact actually is, there will be one for sure but I don't know how much.
But my imagination tells me that it won't be severe since it is placed where velocity is low and pressure is high. If you have a look at professional horn drivers then you will notice that some have fine screens at exactly that place.
