I'm building an amp for my Shiva sub, and I have a question. Should i build a parallel amp, and parallel the voice coils, or should I just build an amp for each voicecoil?
Seems to me like the power output would be the same. So is it just a matter of preference? (btw, the amp will be made up of 2 lm3886t chipamps) |

Parallel amps and parallel voicecoils for the most output. Parallel voicecoils will give you half the impedence for double amp output. The parallel amps will handle the load better.

How exactly do you make a parallel amp with chip amps ?
For a normal amp its easy, double up output devices, and use the coils in parallel, of course double the rating of the power supply. ![]() |

More or less by doubleing output devices.

Well IMO its hardly different to paralleled input separate amplifiers.
Given the choice I'd keep the outputs seperate, 0.2R probably means if one amplifier goes west (south), so will the other shortly. ![]() |

Officeboy, no offense taken, I misunderstood what you were saying by 'parallel'. In this case you are correct.
