You brace for two main issues: acoustic pressure in the box, whether vented or not, and vibration transmitted from the driver to the enclosure. MDF is thought to have energy storage issues which need addressing on panels as large as yours, so going to the trouble of correct bracing is part of improving the original.

So due to my router having an offset square base, I had to make two new round bases for the previously mentioned driver rebating method to work;

And it wasn't millimeter perfect/press fit, but its close enough for me;

Next time I do this I will buy a router with a round base. When I bought the one I have, there were no trim routers available with round bases.

Are you going to flush the woofer in too? If your not planning to, please reconsider as it'll look alot better in the finished product. Truste me on this, you'll be happy you did it.

Cabinets ready to sand and veneer. Quite pleased with how theyve turned out, but definitely feel ive room to improve on my next speakers. Im hooked! This is fun.

If you have a round over router bit, you might want run it around the outside of the port opening. Helps airflow in and out of the port, also looks better.

I had considered that but then the veneer would be hard to finish to the round over.

Veneer it, use 2"tape and cover all around the port, router it, then the port perimeter will be taped off and allow you to paint the port black.

Got the veneer finished ... boy do you learn a lot about veneer just doing it once

Finally got these finished. Few hiccups which I need to avoid on the next build
1. Used a gloss finish. Next time will go satin?

2. Veneer cracked almost 2mm wide on side that got exposed to direct sun, unsure how to avoid this

3. Cabinet joins becoming visible - is the cabinet moving

4. Finishing is the hardest part.

They sound perfect, but they should because JBL designed them, not me haha! Already purchased a classix 2.5 set as the next project
