Vintage Monitor Audio MA200? Limited edition Monitor 2 Gold?

Hi all,

Just picked up what I thought were some Monitor 2 Gold speakers made at the old Cambridge factory near where I work. However on closer inspection I noticed that someone had hand written two zeroes after the 2 on the original box and looking at the rear of the speakers this is borne out as they are stated to be MA 200. What I can say is that they are probably the best small speaker I’ve ever heard. Jazz and vocals sound jaw dropping and bass is surprisingly deep. Aside from a little sun discolouration to the cabinets these are amazing. Just wish I knew more about the specs.

Hi Mat!

I'm not clear on exact model. You say 'small speaker' - are they stand mounts?

A photograph of speaker and label on rear would help.

Hi there,

Thanks for your input. I’ve attached some photos for information. They’re tiny, I also picked up some Monitor 3 at the same time and the tweeters and bass drivers look the same.

Here's a quote I found on 'The Audio Forums' which may explain the lack of information on this particular speaker:

"I could not detect them or find any info about them. At the end I contacted guys from Monitor Audio. Even they could not find any concrete info except couple of references with no further information. They concluded that it could be a special edition which previous owner (Mo Iqbal) liked to produce without any documentation."
