Hah, also ordered a pair from THLP along with an Eminence HA-14-2 adapters from Blue Aran.:D

Will be trying them in a 2" biradial horn closely related TH-4001 (Usher D2/D3). The reference driver is TD-4001 with original be-diaphragms. Lets see how these very interesting new drivers sound and measure, interesting also to take a peek inside them...

The Usher bi-radial horn has the fins further away from the throat than original TH-4001 design and beams the HF more, which might be good for the Faital's falling response, might compensate for it somewhat at 0deg.
 
HF1440 disassembled - basically three parts. The outer diameter of the diaphragm is 100 mm, the inner 72 m (86 mm voice coil).

The press release claims a lot of time was spent refining low frequency behavior. Wonder how it compares to other large format drivers down low. The high frequency is very smooth compared to most.

I was looking at 4" diaphragm compression drivers for a project but then this showed up last week for PL+S. Looks like many are going to ring-radiators for their flagship products.

Although comments on a comparison between the 950PB-Be and Axi2050 makes me pause for a bit. The person claimed that the 950 had noticeably higher resolution despite being matched very closely in frequency response and level.
On another forum someone has a JBL 2452H-SL ranked slightly ahead of the D2 for their preferences.

Maybe it has something to do with a large piston moving very little vs. small section of a ring trying to make the same spl....I don't know.

Guess I need to try both.

You and me both.... Do you have a link for the website you read the comments on? I paid 700/pc for my Axi's I would consider a 950Be if I could find it for similar...to compare and contrast.
 
Sorry, I don't follow.

What caught my attention is how they connected the back side of the diaphragm with the internal volume of air under the front cover, apparently to increase the compliance (I can't imagine any other function - these are quite narrow channels).

The area of the ring is about half of a 4" dome. JBL specs 0.5mm xmax for their most recent drivers.

Looks like they aimed to roughly match the output of large format drivers without breakup in the upper octave while avoiding the cost of Beryllium.
