Default Which 15" transducer for Altec VOT/825/A7?

Moderator note: Two threads merged and moved to multi way.

Hi,
I am currently trying to model the A7 in HR. I intend to retune the port section, thats why Ap and Lpt are different from the original design (originally 1422 sqcm and baffle thickness).

I assumed 400L net internal volume, and 55 cm Lrc(average rear chamber)...

I am specifically unsure about Vtc and Atc..... but also Lrc, sincce it varies in the different parts of the cabinet. in the upper section it is rather small, but the big bulk of the cabinet under the horn section is 60 cm deep.

How does the input look, any obvious mistakes

400L sounds about right to me for actual volume. I've never simmed the A7 in HR - but every other box sim program I've used the results weren't correct unless I used a net volume of about 11 cubic feet or 310 liters. I don't know why that is, but I'm not the only one to find that.

Looking forward to seeing what you do.

I am wondering if this thread could be moved to a different subforum........ it might get more attention and replies? Other A7 threads have dwelled mostly in the multi-way subforum

Good morning,
I have been trying to model the Altec VOT cab in hornresp with a faital pro woofer that was praised for its good midrange sound.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend current production woofers for this cabinet? It will be crossed around 1 kHz, maybe a bit lower, since it is for "domestic use".

Best regards,
Bob

I guess you're trying to get something in Europe?
The newly produced Altec drivers from GPA could be considered current production woofers, right?

Oooof...... Slightly out of price range wesayso, but you are right, hopping in Europe, the builder will probably shop at thomann for convenience
i was thinking more along the lines of Faital Pro, Fane, PD, B&C,18sound, Oberton etc.......

15PR400 will work well. I'm assuming that is the model you're looking at.

Beyma 15MI100 looks like a really good option as well.

Most if not all modern drivers are designed for smaller enclosures. The original drivers had strong motors and soft suspensions. Look for specs as close to the GPA 416 if you want closer to original performance.

Having said that, technology has changed for the better. A little EQ will make most high quality midbass drivers sing in that box for domestic settings.
