Why not adjust the TM module's angle instead? You could then aim the highs at your ears without significantly affecting the MW spacing.

All depends on the genetic hearing acuity, care of hearng and how well trained you are. Many people will not even notice but it will drive more than a few away (ie a segment of those are going to have choosen FR drivers because the whole question becomes a non-issue).

From the psychoacoustic tests of audibility of comb filtering that Toole has done the take away also seems to be that it's not much of an issue.

The issue of woofer to mid or mid to tweeter is about way more than comb filtering.
