Is it possible to cover the whole spectrum, high SPL, low distortion with a 2-way?

Posted elsewhere by cask05, but relevant to this thread I guess.

Spectrograms of the Faital Pro HF20AT and the TAD TD-4002 on a K-402 horn.
Not bad, considering the TAD is 10x the price of the Faital.

eek, I thought the k402 would be less reflective..................

Its mouth radius either needs to be much larger or damped enough to mimic it. A rounded over wooden perimeter horn extension would be a nice cosmetic double duty tweak, though of course the trade-off is a wider crossover gap, so for me it's always a foam mouth termination or fiberglass insulation if a grill is used.

Folks tend to forget these type horns are for being within 3/4" of a perforated screen [assuming it hasn't changed over the decades], so the whole area is coupling to it to a greater or lesser extent, making this ~moot.

From just looking at photos though, mounting the horn to a frame and wrapping foam around it starting at the horn's flange form line to create a diffuse 'bumper' seems a worthwhile tweak once the right density is found.

The easy choice would be water pipe insulation, but it's closed cell foam, so to some extent reflective, but not having tried it might be worth gambling a few bucks to find out.

Indeed.....brilliant!:D

This was masterful- you really had me going. Bravo!

just a demonstration of my abilities to inspire lol!

Sincerely Your curator

Now, I tend to do things in a kind of OCD order, meaning I could seat the new diaphragms, I could start playing with the dsp and learning it, I could probably move a little quicker on the enclosure design but because I haven’t received the woofers yet.....my ocd says no. I am interested in a rack of sorts to hold the amps, maybe something with wheels? I dunno. Looks to be another 75 hr week, so it’s not like I have much time anyway. It maybe till November when I get laid off for winter that this build is concluded. Only time will tell...
The discussion abroad is delightful, please carry on.

OT, if someone in or near Germany doesn't feel like building his own big 2-way and wants to follow in the footsteps of Mitch(ba), there's currently a pair of 4722Ns for sale.
€1300, non-negotiable.
