need help with measuring

It's on microphone. When I click "check levels" it normally starts making pink noice and it also shows an input level. The microphone does give a correct input when doing tests such as with the SPL meter and it's for sure the UMIK-1 and not the built-in microphone of the laptop. Easily identifiable by waving my hand in front of the UMIK-1.

I had this issue recently and was confusing because I try hard not to change any settings. I disconnected everything and restarted the computer and started it up fresh and it reset whatever was wrong and had worked fine for 2 weeks. I may have been a lucky, but just throwing it out there.

I'm back on Mac again because I'm sick of my dad not letting me borrow his laptop but this useless overpriced piece of junk keeps giving this message, even though I've selected the UMIK-1 as input device in the settings. And no matter which button I press, it gives the following message and won't work. Thanks Apple

Perhaps you should first try the mac sound card and measure its FR just to confirm that REW and mac hardware works fine. Let the microphone rest for awhile.

Oh my god (I'm not the kind of teenager that says that all the time), I just installed the last 5.20 update because I was getting annoyed by the notifications and it actually works now! It gives totally realistic measurements. Though it still says my woofers go down flat to 15 Hz which would be awesome if it were true by I'm finding it hard to believe. Though bass does sound very powerful and I'm in a tiny room that really likes to boost bass frequencies and I've set a 10 dB boost cut at 25 Hz so there is a chance it's actually true! And measurements aren't looking too bad I think for a system that's yet to be set-up properly.

Good news!
My next steps were:
Soundcard calibration (I couldn't);
Microphone calibration (I get a text file from the RF supplied with the mic);
A control of the dynamic range: the images aren't speakers, but noise from the soundcard and from soundcard+room;
Get a sound level meter to adjust levels (android, rough, on the phone).

Just finished seeing up the DSP on my Hypex FA123's. Pretty flat response now and very good impuls response. And man do the speakers sound way better now! Now I truly have a perspective of what kind of difference the filter makes.

I had this problem with a laptop - what worked for me was locating a third party audio software called SmartAudio in my case - its what is supplied by your vendor as an extra - and there the default mic was the laptop one, even if the Windows menu showed it should not be. it caused erratic measurements until I figured out the problem. I hope this helps.

Slightly improved the response again, now it's truly perfect. And I've lowered the midrange to tweeter crossover frequency from 3,5 kHz to 3 kHz. There was quite a bit of annoying beaming. Completely gone now. Sounds way more natural.
