Take a look at the Tang Band 5" W5-2143
-90db sensitivity.
-Mms = 6g,
-underhung motor,

-sim with 3kHz BW3 / BW3 crossover circuits
-Aluminum phase plug smooths sound above crossover
-Virgin white cone + Al phase plug blend with Al ribbon

The Scanspeak 18W/8434G00 has Resonance frequency [fs] 50 Hz, so putting two in a 2.5 cuft volume with a port tuned to 40Hz looks good for a modest 1.5db bass shelf with -F3=38Hz PORT = 4" inside diameter, 5.6" long simple pipe (no round overs). Tweeter height ~39" is desirable. Width and depth should not be the same.

You can reduce cabinet edge diffraction distortion with simple edge bevels, or if you have a router with a 0.5" chuck you can purchase up to 1.5" radius quarter round cutters.

I've designed few MTMs with NeoCd3 and 5.25" Seas paper cones. Xo was close to acoustical LR4 at 4kHz. Overall compromise around xo; balance, flexibility and spl capacity is better than textbook bw3+bw3 quite often recommended here. It's good to be aware of textbook designs but better applications irl are possible.
