Hole Filler XO - directivity and lobing

Hello everyone!

Threads and builds like that - http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/297171-rs28f-rs180p-b80-hole-filler-3-a.html - got me interested in a hole filler crossover. Frequency and phase-wise it seems like a very neat concept. However, I wasn't able to find information of how such a crossover works in terms of horizontal and vertical directivity at crossover point. If we use, say, a 7+3.5+1 inch drivers with 1500 Hz crossover point, will it have a hole in horizontal off-axis response at the crossover point? What about the vertical lobing?

It will be a non-issue in your example. I've implemented it with larger center to center designs and still prefer it over traditional topologies.

Horizontal off-axis should be ok. Vertical off axis will have broad peaks and dips that occur at shallower angles compared to a conventional 3-way.

Thank you all. Yeah, I guess because the drivers work over the same frequency range their interference in the vertical plane will be bad

Has anyone compared the B&O Hole Filler XO to Harsch XO? Both are trying to achieve linear phase, but with different means. Both are quite easily achievable with DSP (normal miniDSP).

I have tried and are using Harsch XO. I really like that XO. Havent tried B&O XO. Not that easy to implement if the bass is not meant for use over a wide band.
