Some speaker driver measurements...

Don't have the paper versions have upgraded motors? The marketing material for them contains "Low-distortion high-excursion motor system with two short-circuit paths" whereas the original metal-cone versions don't show that.

Dunno, but when the paper cones were introduced the early results showed slightly higher distortion in the midbass through lower mid range region compared to the aluminum. Haven't looked at those results in a number of years though, different sizes might behave differently.

Off axis response is similar.

The big difference will be in harmonic distortion. While at 2.83 V the textreme is only marginally lower in distortion, sound output at 2.83 V will be much much higher since it has a sensitivity of 96 dB. Therefore, for the same volume output it will be using a lower voltage along with the associated lower voltage distortion curve.

Basically, it'll play way louder despite having a lower rated power.

Thank you HifiCompass. I love what you're doing, good thing after Mark & Zaph job. Liked a lot what Mark did...

Bravo to you.Yyou show IMD measurement on your tests as well ? most of the time my first reflex is to look at spl curves and water fall. Then H3 distorsions.
