Hello together,
I'd like to build a pair of the famous speedster (https://sites.google.com/site/undefinition/speedster) speakers. To ship the kit from meniscusaudio to Germany is quite expensive (>80$) so I want to purchase the parts individually.
The BOM from Paul Carmody's site states the following parts for the crossover:
- 2.2uF Polypropylene Capacitor (100+ V) x2
- 4.7uF Polypropylene Capacitor (100+ V) x4
- .25 mH air core inductor (20 AWG) x2
- 1.5 mH air core inductor (18-19 AWG) x2
- .35 mH air core inductor (18-19 AWG) x2
- 10 Ohm wirewound resistor (10+ watt) x2
- 8 Ohm wirewound resistor (10+ watt) x2
The shop I found (which sells mundorf parts) offers the following parts:
- MCAP250-2,2uF (Mundorf - Inner Excellence)
- MCAP250-4.7uF (Mundorf - Inner Excellence)
- L50-0,27mH (=> different value, Mundorf - Inner Excellence)
- L71-1,5mH (Mundorf - Inner Excellence)
- L71-0,33mH (=> different value, Mundorf - Inner Excellence)
- MR10-10Ohm (Mundorf - Inner Excellence)
- Mr10-8,2Ohm (=> different value, Mundorf - Inner Excellence)
Can I take the parts with the different values and still have a good sounding crossover?
Thanks in advance
Florian

If you're within 10%, you should be fine. If you go to Paul's website or look him up on the Parts Express website, he can give you a definite answer. He's a very friendly and very helpful guy.

+1. Also check the inductors' DC resistance against Paul's BOM as those could make a difference too.
