Dear all
I am building (finally have got it chosen) Mark's ER18DXT as a first diy project.
All parts from BOM seems to be fine, but due to Marks choice of Erse inductors- I am unable source them in europe.
Would anybody suggest to alternative to:
2.5 Mh 14 awg 0.36 ohm 800 w (pe number 266-380)
0.22 mh 18 awg 0.19 ohm (pe number 266-808)
0.6 mh 18 awg 0.36 ohm (pe number 266-818)

Would much appreciate help.

I am about to get myself into some hot water.

I have purchased quite a few inductors over the years. All where tested before use, why, because I'm a bit anal.

The Erse where always off, and I don't mean a little bit. I would always work backwards and retest some of the Alpha Core's and Mundorf's just to make sure it wasn't the tester.

YMMV, their quality control may have gotten better, or maybe I just got a bad batch.

Found here, on diyaudio.

These are all air-cored coils. Anything similar will do. 14 guage for the 2.5mH is just keeping the resistance low around 0.36 ohm, but it's not critical. You could adjust R1 in the tweeter crossover to compensate anyway.

The Seas ER18DXT ported two way

Really can't see anything magical about those ERSE coils. They are copper, they are round, they aren't ferrite cored. That's it. :D

Ok, but which one for example ( hope cap not twice the price of the drivers).

And why thy C2 is so critical to SQ ?
For that project my suggestion for C2 is Auricap XO - it is extrememely neutral with high resolution and will provide deeper sound. You can use here Mundorf MCap Supreme, but it will not give such deepnes as Auricap XO. If you will use here Mundorf MCap400 - it will add some "syntetics"; something like Bennic, Solen will add "harshnes" - but it is my personal oppinion, sugest the best here Auricap XO.

For other caps: you can use inexpensive Mundorf MCap400.

Auricap XO... price is high.
Plus I need to combine 2 caps to get value required.
But why is this so important to put expensive capacitor on tweeter ... ?
C2 is standart value - 5.6uF, no need to combine. This one I recommend to use good one.

Other caps you must combine - C5: 1.5+1.5 in parallel, C4: standart value 15uF, C3: 10uF 2pcs sequientially. Could be not such expensive.

voxxonline, I don't want to worry you, because I might have misunderstood this, but is this a reputable design?

I just looked at those notches. The one on the bass makes sense. It is a 4.8kHz one to deal with a cone resonance on the SEAS ER18NX:
http://www.seas.no/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=111&Itemid=133

But I can't make sense of either of the tweeter notches for the SEAS H1499-06 27TBCD/GB-DXT:
H1499-06 27TBCD/GB-DXT

These operate at 1.6kHz and about 6kHz. That makes no sense for a tweeter with a Fs of 900Hz and no obvious nasties. Check it yourself:

Well, I don't know what you're going to do, my friend.

IMO, it's a rubbish design. He's just thrown a couple of random notches at the tweeter to get the frequency response flat. Really C4 should be around 50uF to hit 900Hz. :D

The bass, I like:
Sample projects

But I could be wrong. And I expect you could fit the SEAS Idunn tweeter filter anyway.

... or maybe something else.
There is one prooven design which repeated many times, it uses same CA18ERX, but different tweeter from Seas - 27TDC . Crossover schematics is more simple, without notches (2 coils, 2 caps and 2 resistors only).

Will try to find a link, do not remenber where I saved it.

Added:
Here is the link to project: Optima SE
schematics from there:

Cabinet:

you can play with form of it - just keep clear internal volume ~15l (take in account, that crossover parts used there are quite big) and port tuning for 45Hz and front panel width.
Here is discussion on russian DIY forum about this construction: Optima SE
You can see some pictures there ;)
