Back in the 1970's used (and burned up) a lot of those buggers. They only cost about $10 then IIRC, and were more robust (and louder) than an EV ST-350. Wish I knew then that they could be re-diaphragmed, we just threw them away like used tissues.

As Planet 10 says, crossover design will be important, though we were just using a simple capacitor, and ran 12" speakers full range below, close enough for rock and roll.
Later, used them with an EV 12M, using 12 dB per octave crossovers on both, they hung in there for stage monitor use, sounded decent.

The 18K spec is probably at least 10dB down (on axis) from the 3500 Hz response, padding them back and using a high bypass capacitor you could get some sparkle from them.
