Distortion in drivers

Drivers do indeed add distortions of their own in the form of harmonics. They cannot start and stop on a dime like they should in a perfect world. A voice coil has only a small range of being in optimal control of the motor structure when it overshoots or is over driven it distorts the original signal. The good thing is that we can tolerate more distortion in the bass which most people like. (tubby bass or Kick *** bass to the kids, the kind that makes a kick drum sound like some sort of dinorsaur fart or something) Where our ears are most sensitive is in the midrange. We can take less distortion here. How much less depends on what you are used to. If you want to ruin your perception of good sound go and listen to some electrostatics. They produce the least amount of distortion of any driver I know of. Then if its not your cup of tea find some drivers that cime the closest. For a magnetic driver I've used the neo 8's and they are PDG for the price.
