Monophonic speakers

The reverse phase creates an unpredictable psycho-acoustic effect through the multiple comb filtering. The brain can‘t decode any placement from this overload of pseudo-spatial clues, and so this weirdness results.

Fun for a while, and available as plugin in any DAW.

I think single speaker mono can be viable for the enjoyment of music.

But you cannot just use any speaker to get the best from it. I find a lot of the best speakers for mono have a lot of indirect sound. So, open baffle; or something like a Voigt Domestic Corner Horn (which I have never heard sound as good when used in stereo!). I thought the Lowther speaker that bounces the sound off the rear wall worked in mono. Conversely, I think wide baffles work well with one speaker, and front horns.

These are just subjective opinions.
