OB concept study using inexpensive bass drivers

Hi there Oliver,

That's not very sensible or even wise, when you can build a really performance OB by copying my 'Volks-OB'. I don't know what you hold against it. But trying with Fostex units won't certainly better your choice. Just build the 'Volks-OB' and report back here of the result. :wiz:

SpectrumAudio.de has a Senon 12" widerange with OB specs ... 27EUR ... might be good in a 2.5way :D

Very nice looking cone!

Hi Erling,

by thinking about own concepts i did not intend diminishing
other concepts.

Can you please post a link to a volks-ob description ?

Best regards

@ skorpion

Hi Erling,

sorry, i already visited that link.

It is a straightforward FAST design, and i truly believe that
performance meets the excellent measurements.

Value for money seems very reasonable.

But be honest: It is a concept for people willing to give
a speaker a rather dominant position in their living room.

My own "dipol 08" design is such a dominant concept too.

For now i want something more reluctant. Some people like
enjoing music but the speakers have to integrate into their
other interests. Do you know those people ?

You won't meet them in our forums usually, but they exist.

I posted some historic archetypes before, which IMO
have been reluctant OB/dipole concepts.

Regards Oliver

Tinitus,

of cause i need the baffle area too.

But i think that height and depth is what contributes
to "dominance" in a room mostly ...

OK, one could build a reluctant version of volks ob,
fullrange driver lower, baffle tilted (please don't kill
me Erling)

But depth stays, optically it is a big enclosed volume.

I believe the designs of Wharfedale and Quad were
adapted very good to most or at least some peoples
needs.

This is why they were successful products,
not only because of sound quality alone.

Cheers

Tinitus,

thanks for your patience.

I like your suggestions very much.

Concerning the Senon YD 1256 U :
2 of them can displace 1/3 -1/4 of the volume
which is displaced by 4 of the TB Woofers.
Xmax is 1,5 mm. Nevertheless price is attractive
and 2.5 way might work well ...

@hoxuanduc

Concerning Exodus DPL-10:
Beautiful Killer, two of them would be sufficient.
I know xbl motor design from FR125 drivers, it works.

What about midrange Performance ?
Purchasing it in Europe could be a problem.

Regards Oliver

Line Array and tinitus,

For the size impressions, I think you are both wrong, the 'Volks-OB' looks in front is absolutly not more offensive than Oliver's baffle measure. Of course you see sides (and those are only there to enhance bass response) but I wouldn't see them as anything more antagonizing than the front. With OB you wouldn't get away with smaller baffle-size and still have good performance also in midrange and high bass without beeing restricted to very special baffle placement. In fact I consider the 'Volks-OB' very space and baffle effective. :spin:

That was actually what I said

Oliver, it sound like you have to get on with it and build your design

Where in Germany or elsewhere do you buy TB drivers ?

About being inexpencive I am not so sure
