I've had the 165-2000 for a little while now, I really like them. I don't think they need a tweeter at all as they do sound quite smooth in that region.
Bass is not their strong point but thats not what they are about, certainly helped with the 285GMF bass drivers!

after some work, investigations and experiments, my OB speaker is now nearly finished. Thought Ill show you some photos therefore. This installation is a free-swinging OB with fieldcoil widerange driver (Fertinacoustics 21M8EX), bass driver (AE Dipole 18 with double magnet) and ambient supertweeter (Peerless OT 19). Ive had lots of input from this nice forum, many will recognize techniques for example developped by Michael (the free-swinging approach) or by Erling (the minimum baffle, hope I remember that right), and of course Ill have to thank Rudolf for his work, and many others too.

This is a form-follows-function design and no gimmick. It has the one and only purpose to make me happy when Im listening to music, and for me its the most satisfying outcome Im able to produce.

Over the month and years of work, they got the name "les fleurs noires", due to form and the french origin of the main driver.

All the best

I am sure they sound as gorgeous as they look.

And the ceiling rail system to attach them is nicely done as well.

Enjoy your free time at home and the exquisite music!

If Mattes only substitutes the wires for hanging with rubberbands, it's another scenario...!
It's like learning sex during the Victorian era: you get to the wedding night and there are many things to do that you never imagined.
