We make low noise jfets which are used in audio applications, that second source jfets made by Interfet, National, Motorola, Siliconix, and Toshiba. After releasing our LSK170, and the dual version LSK389, we started getting customer input regarding this website. Since our goal is to service both the professional and diy audio markets, we wanted to to provide access to your members to assist in answering questions regarding our current and future products. We welcome your questions and comments.

Sincerely,

Linear Systems

Greetings and welcome to the forum! We always appreciate non-commercial input from manufacturers; when people want to know how to use your devices or run into problems, it's nice to be able to go right to the source.

I would certainly encourage LS to consider joining our group of advertising vendors; it helps support this totally non-profit forum and has been a great mutual benefit to both vendors and our consumer members, now well over 50,000 strong.

Thanks for being here. I have a general application question:

If operated within their power limits, how close to maximum Vds can your devices work without sacrificing performance or reliability? Would a 20-25% derating on this parameter, e.g., a 60V device working with 45-48V drain to source, be considered good practice? If not, what is your rule of thumb?

Yes, your derating percentage works fine as a general rule.

In the event that your circuit required a breakdown close to the maximum limit of one of our datasheets, it would be good to test one of the devices to see if the maximum limit listed on the data sheet has some additional margin. While some devices are spec'd the data sheets at the device performance limit, other devices can be spec'd with additional performance available. It varies device to device, supplier to supplier.

Sincerely,

Linear Systems
