The Joyo American Sound pedal that was recommended in post #3 by BambosZek is supposedly a clone of one of the Sansamp "Character Series" pedals.

I've used the American Sound. IMO it is "less awful" than most solid-state guitar amp emulators / modellers I've tried. It's certainly a reasonable option for the purposes of this thread.
