Default signal processing question

Is there a software out there I can use to process the music notes that would be coming, say from a USB mic(maybe a guitar would be hooked in).

Maybe there's an open source instrument tuner available out there? My end goal here is to create a game in Unity3d, my own Rocksmith music learning game.

I'm a newbie when it comes to audio so please keep that in mind.

Thanks so much!
