RIP multi

Contributor "multi" died a couple of weeks ago.

Phil was an old-school prolific builder of amps from "golden-age" schematics. Very conservative and generally used transformers and chokes from old theatre and other vintage equipment. All point-to-point wiring. His only concession was to use silicon rectifiers in most of his amps. Chassis up to 5mm were hand-punched and would take weeks of work.

He built SE and PP amps for his own interest (there's a shed full of them) and on commission. I have a couple in my system (6GU7/7355 Williamson design) and many others in Perth have amps he built.

When I retired I was able to return to my passion for building electronics and those 2 6GU7/7355 amps started a fascination with building tube equipment. Phil was always generous with guidance, advice, components and the loan of tools. He was always sending me classic designs to counter my preference for the synergies between tubes and silicon.

Phil will be missed by the tube HiFi community here in Perth Western Australia.
