Yes, unless someone finds a through hole version that is better?

If you can find 2sk170c then you could manipulate the legs to fit.

Hence my search to experiment but it seems this version wasnt as popular.

2SK170C doesn't exist. LSK170C = 2SK170V. I have 2SK170V with 11.3mA Idss.

Yep, LSK170C was I meant.

Needs the same idds as the 861C whichbis up to 20mA IIRC

BF861C can be from 12 - 25mA. That's quite a big difference. So, BF861C with Idss 12mA isn't enough?

Truth is, we have never tried it.

Give it a whirl....see what happens but just make sure you get the pins right
