I made some progress with the motherboard today. The aluminum angle is 40*40*3mm material and I’m still pondering wether to make some holes on the top or not? My metal working tools are primitive and I’m afraid I’ll ruin the piece while making large holes to it. Are the (ventilation?) holes really needed?

The other thing I was wondering is maybe I could survive without using aluminum plate between the MUR diodes? The loads with headphone amps are quite modest after all.

Use 1.5mm drill to predrill the centre position.
Then use a stepped drill to open up to size.

Decor. Plus that you probably don't want to cloud your caps with a heated cover.
And it is advisable to connect the angle to the side heatsinks thermally.
Else it can get real hot (55°C).

Yes, but you don't want them to accidentally touch each other at the metal backing.
The AL strip will make sure that does not happen.

You don't have to copy everything I did. ;)

Some more progress with the motherboard. Still to do are the ventilation holes to the top of the aluminum angle. No-load voltages were +-24 V with my 2x15vac transformers so all ok on that behalf.

More aluminum grinding and after that some rewarding pcb soldering. I wanted to make the regulators easily removable so I can test different kinds and swap them to see if I can hear any differences.
