I am very sorry for those that are still asking for PCB, but again this second GB was for those who missed the first one and at the beginning I expected no more than 20 or 30 PCB to be ordered and finally we have 120 PCB ordered, much more than the 80 of the first GB and with more people asking for it again :eek: C'est la vie !

I want to take this opportunity to thank again Ian (gingertube) who stated the "Baby Huey" thread and helped me a lot in the design of this PCB, I am sure that he would not have believed at the begining that more than 200 PCB will be built for this particular version of the original EL84 Baby Huey :D

Both solutions are possible, in fact there is already a volume pot designed on the board... You can use it either :

1) as a level trimmer to adjust the two channel gain if you are using a separate preamplifier for volume control and / or input selection

or

2) as a volume pot connexion for an integrated amplifier, you can just connect a dual 20k or 50k log pot to the pins of the replaced on board pot !

I had a quick look at the EC95 datasheet, both tube are compatible, it seem that the EC97 replaced in 1962 the older EC95 from 1959... However 6.3 V heather tube are difficult to find, that's why I used a 300 mA PC97 tube much cheaper... If you are using a 6.3 V tube, just replace R31 & R39 3W resistors by a jumper :)

Reviving your answer and my question again, that I have a Aikido ACF2 buffer as well as Aikido Octal line stage which I am planning to use with this amp. So just removing the volume pot does not make it a pure power amp right? So even with your above explanation of removing the pot from this boards and use a 50k pot on the buffer/preamp still works then the preamp tubes on the baby hueu still works as a preamp stage with EL34 or other tubes correct. So this does not strictly become as a power amp or cannot make it as with the onboard built-in preamp stage with dedicated tubes.
Please help me with this as I am almost decided to build this with some good quality output transformers but also would like use my existing either tube buffer or tube line stages which are of very quality and I still enjoy them.

With the volume pots turned all the way up, you should have 0 ohms. I find that I need to use a pre-amp when I am connecting to an Ipad or phone for my source. But when using my CD player I plug directly into my amp. A CD player output voltage is approximately 2.3VRMS; whereas an Iphone/Ipad is in the neighborhood of 0.77VRMS and Androids are even less.

Hi,

Just a little precision, if the on board volume pot is mounted under the board (that will be the case if you want to have the tubes visible on top of the chassis) you must turn them to the maximum on the opposite direction (non clockwise) and in this case the input will be directly connected to the grid of the 12AX7 through R3 with a 20k or 50k input resistance depending of your pot ( I put the schematic again, therefor you don't need to search through all the thread...) :)

I have used the amplifier without any preamp until now and it give enough power with the output of several CD players (specified at 2 V RMS).

A preamp can however be useful to select inputs and also if you want to use a remote control to increase or decrease the volume with a motorized pot, my next project :D

PCB arrived !

Hi Everybody,

The PCB arrived yesterday :D Nearly 10 kg... I have also bought the envelopes for the shipment, now the hard work will start :) I have to print the addresses and the stamps and to check the ordered qty for each buyer, to put everything together and to bring it to the post office...

I hope to ship everything before the week-end :xfingers:
