 Hmmm... why discard this when we can also reclock the MCK from transport. In this way we can achieve fully synchronous operation (with DAC driven from this MCK). Then other DACs can be used also

hmm, can this be optional? I usually have better clocks elsewhere =) remember the onboard clocks do not allow reclocked syncronous 352/384 operation with oversampling on, they arent fast enough and when they are used to reclock the flipflops directly, even with oversampling off, they can result in silence at high speeds. illustrated here

Oh yes, this is optional and does not interact with other functions. Re-clocking clock (>50MHz) is totally external. Transport MCK is not used for re-clocking due to timing limitations at high fs. Since board is not populated just ignore this MCK line if not required. Just thought of not leaving out the original signals of the Amanero. Similarly the DSD active line is now isolated and brought out. Will post some updated pics shortly

Fully synch'd would be great for me. I use a CM6631 with its own 45.X and 49.X xo's, and (either) one of these feeds the ES9018 too. So it'd be cool if your device could also use the same XO. Your board could re-clock the CM's xo, and then that could be fed to the ES9018 ?

After reading the comments about the MCK, I think this realization can not be used in simple form with a Buffalo dac.

Is necessary to use one or two external clocks to obtain proper MCK, since the Buffalo clock isn´t suitable for this task.

Thus, for the Buffalo DAC users, have more downside than advantages. And I think we are the majority of possible interested.

Regards.

what? are you sure you understand how this works?

take the output side clock from wherever you like, whats complicated about that?

why is the buffalo clock not suitable? I dont understand what the confusion is. flips flops need a clock, use the isolated amanero clock, use the buffalo clock, use another clock...

the only limitation is you cannot use the amanero clocks to clock the buffalo at higher than 176.4/192khz program material in sync mode. you can always use the buffalo clock for any rate the buffalo can normally handle, or you can use another clock.

or Acko, you could add an optional frequency doubler to the Mclk flip flop and only Mclk; then people could use it for those speeds. thats the only limitation and it stands for any USB board that has 22.5792/24.576MHz clocks

Smanz, you probably misunderstood something mate. Acko's solution is pretty flexible - just has to be tweaked in some cases.
By the way, I agree it should be made as "universal" and flexible as possible. But keep in mind there are too many Amaneros around which I'm sure will be used with a variety of DACs.
It'd be impossible to facilitate every possible DAC and its quirks without hurting compatibility with other solutions.

indeed and the only issue is of someone else's doing =)

but it could be said to be as much our fault as Diyers using the amanero in a way not initially intended. the clocks are too slow for sync mode at MAX speed, but for async they are fine and that was the way it was designed to work really.

Just caught the Edit mate, yep agreed. I think its fine as is, I think smanz mustve misunderstood something. the doublerate flipflop would be cool but not essential in the slitest and we wouldnt want to hurt performance in order to cater for what is largely a non-issue
