Hello,

Can anyone help me out, my tech knowhow doesn't stretch far enough to make a solid decision.
I'm trying to decide if any of the new Ian products could make an improvement in audio quality for my streaming solution?

My current setup:
Rpi -> IsolatorPi + DoP decoder -> Kali Reclocker -> AudioGD i2S output module -> external Dac (Pink Faun)

DC provided by two home build lineair power supplies.

I'm wondering if the FifoPi would improve anything? What else could improve audioquality?

LifePO4 pure battery power supply can improve your sound quality for sure.

FifoPi too:
1. Its built in isolator is placed after all logic sections, so we will get more clean clock output signals for DAC without interfering by any digital processing.
2. It's designed with XO sockets, so you can feel free to upgrade to higher grade clocks according to your listening preference to improve sound quality.
3. It's capable for PCM 768KHz, DSD 1024 and DoP, so you will have more room for higher quality digital music format.
4. LDO for clock section can be bypassed to be fed with better 3.3V rail direct for battery or ultra capacitor power supply.

However, if you use FifoPi, you will no longer need all the things between RPi and output. It could be a waste for you. So, you have to make the decision by yourself.

Ian, I have a parallel question;
In a RPi based streaming setup with i2s out to a dac, how would your FiFoPi compare to combination of McFIFO and McDualXO?

... to extend the question... how does the original fifo2 compares with its dual clock to the successors mcfifo etc... given that you want only stereo, pcm, 192k max?...any have a running fifo2...

FifoPi and McFifo/McDualXO have same 64bit FIFO engine, so they should be closed to each other. The only difference is that McFifo solution has dedicate McDualXo clock board with upgrade-able power supply, so theoretically would be better. But the real difference on sound quality could be minor.

FifoPi is designed for RPi particularly. It has an additional feature that can convert 16bit 44.1KHz I2S into 32bit 44.1Khz I2S losslessly. This feature fixes a well known problem that ESS DAC (such as my Buffalo II) can not work with RPi at 44.1KHz music.

Fifo II belongs to previous generation FIFO technology. It is dedicated for stereo PCM (I2S, left and right justified) applications. If you feed it with good power supply as well as having isolator placed between FifoII and clock board, the sound quality will be still amazing. I'm still using this solution on one of my daily listening DAC.

However, if you DAC is capable for both DSD and I2S, I would suggest you going with new generation ones.
