....

I known only today that this interface alredy exist but it was dedicated for OEM only so M2Tech now must define the method to sell also to DIY.

.........

Are you saying that this was a design that you specified to M2tech & you now found out that this is an existing M2tech OEM board?

Are you also saying that this is an OEM board that is only sold to other manufacturers for incorporation in their products & not sold to end-users?

Your OEM board datasheet publication seems to suggest that you knew it was an existing M2tech OEM board when you started the thread.

Did you get the copyright holder's approval for the publishing of the copyrighted OEM board datasheet?

I'm confused - can you clarify?

Many thanks UnixMan for clarification. I do belive that they will consider real request for Linux driver support and maybe it's possible to use some of existing ALSA USB driver as a starting point and tweak it to reach the full 192/24 capability.

Regarding XMBC, I can confirm that is really well designed and capable, and we also plan to do some additional features to make a music part even more attractive.

XMBC urgently needs mythtv commercial skips. I am also waiting for Hiface Linux driver.

> The module will be an assembled board with USB connector type A or B and I2S output (4 pin).

Type B female please.

And 5 pin I2S please, as many DACs also need MCLK.
i.e. Gnd / MCLK / SCLK / LRCK / SDATA as described in the datasheet under "J2 Pin Description".
In fact, I would even prefer the 8 pin connection as described in the datasheet, with 3 extra Gnd in between.

Thanks,
Patrick

Oh! so no chances to get any mod such as USB isolation, I guess... :(

I remember that only with a custom driver is possible to arrive to 192KHz 24bit.
if it's like the "hiFace", the driver is always required. Without it it does not work at all.

I do belive that they will consider real request for Linux driver support
as said, I had direct contacts with Ing. M. Manunta (m2tech designer) and he promised me that they will release Linux drivers too. Unfortunately, it's been already several months since that promise but no drivers yet. :( Let hope they'll appear soon...

maybe it's possible to use some of existing ALSA USB driver as a starting point and tweak it to reach the full 192/24 capability.
yes, in principle one could modify the ALSA USB driver to support USB 2.0 asynchronous mode according to the standard specs (hoping that the m2tech devices does indeed adhere to the new standard as claimed).

Don't know how hard would be to do that, though.

we also plan to do some additional features to make a music part even more attractive.
Interesting! are you an XBMC developer?

I have received now an email from H2Tech, I can foward it but it is in italian.

Some companies using this module does not like the diffusion of it for DIY.

Yesterday evening M2Tech have decided to not sell this module to DIY.

This mean that this group buy is close.

I have send and email to Musiland to propose the same but it is not easy.

So now the solutions are two:

1) Buy and modify a Musiland 01 (cheaper)
2) Buy and modify a M2Tech HiFace

I am disappointed and angry because we have only lost time.

We just realized that some Italian companies are not very serious.

If you want send a protest email to M2Tech.

Sorry again to all.

yes, in principle one could modify the ALSA USB driver to support USB 2.0 asynchronous mode according to the standard specs (hoping that the m2tech devices does indeed adhere to the new standard as claimed).

Async 24/192 is supported by ALSA. I use this with my EMU 0202 USB. As far as I know there is slight difference between the standard and the EMU implementation (number of frames vs. number of bytes) but I am not sure about that.

So the only question is that how M2tech is compliant with the standard. The windows driver may support some extra features like firmware loading every time the dongle is plugged in, etc... but this is my guess only. I never had a chance to play with it.

Regards,
Frd.

Crap! What is that? some self-helping audio companies I2S embargo!? M2Tech is ridiculous!
Before I wanted to buy HiFace but now I wouldn't buy theirs I2S module nor Hiface!

And I will send protest emil to theme!

Listen, cop onto to yourself!

It's hardly M2tech's fault that the audiodesign breached copyright by publishing a copyrighted datasheet & didn't know what an OEM board meant. These are sold to companies that install them within or as part of their own products. Think about the business impications if M2tech began selling these boards directly to individuals - get real. I bet he will get the same response from Musiland if he tells them exactly what he intends to do - sell them directly to individuals. More people should have asked the question - what is an OEM board.

Suggesting that people should email M2tech with complaints is outrageous - the complaint should be levied against audiodesign for misleading everybody, including M2tech.

I believe this whole sorry state could have been avoided with a modicum of care about what was being posted.
