I had an older pair of those Altecs( magnet was grey and had a larger cooling vent) until someone broke into my shop and stole them. They were great sounding speakers. Strong bass despite the somewhat little XMAX, smooth mids and descent highs. They could use a tweeter for the really high frequencies, but were ok without Tweeters.
just did a google check, mine were the 755a's ![]() now . after 7 years, I'm REALLY ticked about them being stolen! My grandfather gave them to me and I didn't know they were from the 50's! heres another site with a pic that shows the evolution of these speakers more info |

the 755s have perhaps the most outrageus magnet shape,
thus far used on a speaker, the alnico versions, that is. `````````````````````````````````````````````````` ` other- http://img208.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dspzl7.jpg http://img208.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bc10bun5.jpg http://img208.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bc10ajw6.jpg http://img208.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bc10sj7.jpg `````````````````````````````````````````````````` `` i've had things stolen, and got them back later, some times much later. i'm sure them that took, were mighty surprised when taken! |

arround here, large speakers that are stolen wind up in some jackwads car stereo hooked up to multihundred wattage amps. I fear they were quickly destroyed by stupidity not long after they were stolen.
