Thanks for this, jdrouin :)

Bass from the A10P in the trapezoidal Onken is excellent. It goes surprisingly low. It really is an excellent design, and I recommend purchasing the paid planset from Planet 10.

Here’s the build thread:

Mar-Ken10pwTT Build

The 7C5/6L6 amp puts out about 1.5 Watts. I also built a version of the “Darling” 1626 amp thst about out about 3/4 watt. Both are fine for A10P in the trapezoidal Onken. I’ve also used SE 300B amps capable of 4.5 watts and 8 Watts, which had more than enough power.

This is more of a fun experiment in 3D printing than something serious but it worked better than expected (which was nothing). Since the Tectonics square BMRs have a high fs, they can produce a tapered quarter wave tube that is quite economical with filament (500g). Done using the MH audio TQWT calculator and lightly tweaked in Transmission Line. There's nothing below 85Hz (to my ear, using a signal generator) but, down to that point, it's surprisingly even.

When I first plugged it in, I thought I'd accidentally invoked some audio dark magic before I realised my sub was still turned on.

These are very strange to listen to: the mid-highs are extremely clear (as much as a single BMR will permit) while the bass is punchy but tonally compressed. It's like pairing a nice set of small bookshelves with the subwoofer out of a riced car. For some reason, there's 3 bass peaks, at 60, 70 and 87Hz.

Mine are not very original except maybe for their relative compacity and use of vintage mid-80s French-made Triangle T17FL2 full-range 7" speakers, installed in 50-years dry Beech wood... (click on the pics to see full size )

Vnet is 32L for speakers showing FS=55Hz / QTS=0.5 / VAS=40L when measured.
Tuning frequency is very low at 35Hz, providing extra-damping (Q=3.2), suitable for good transient response and use with eventually a light bass equalisation (tone-corrector) to compensate the smooth but early bass cut-off, as they are placed in corners.

Probably a TQWT-type load would have led to better performance, but I did not have the room for such enclosures at that time...

A+!

Alpair 6 sealed dipole surround speakers. Getting ready to test.

Edit:
I see some compression artifacts in those photos, will replace with better version later.

Because I autocorrected myself and didn't notice :) They are wired in-phase, bipole.

Listening position is quite close to speakers and hoping to achieve a more diffused sound with less gap in the soundstage. My current monopole surrounds provide a very direct surround sound effect but it is quite easy to detect the gap between them and they lack "envelopment".

xrk971 RS225 FAST TL build

Hi,

Here's a pic of my recently completed build of the RS225 FAST Transmission Line speakers designed by xrk971. My build uses the Visaton B80 as the mid-tweeter. The cabinets are yet to be stained or finished. My initial impressions are in this post:

10F/8424 & RS225-8 FAST / WAW Ref Monitor

Enjoying the sound. :) Thanks xrk971 for sharing the design with the DIY Community.
