About to dive into a steel voigt pipe build

never mind, i found a low pass filter calculator, i'm going to try one out on the input of the amp when i get time.

I have painted the internal steel surfaces of one cabinet with bitumen paint to dampen the metallic ring. how thick of a coating should i aim for, bearing in mind it will take a long time to dry to the extent that it is not a danger to drip on the driver.

Iam not sure for steel, but for wood based materials bitumen coating thickness should be 1/4 to 1/3 of the panel thickness.

Thank you, that's a great help. This bitumen paint, although messy will work out cheaper in the long run since i can use it to seal gaps instead of silicone.

Are those bitumen paints based on VOC solvent carriers, or water? The former types can take literally weeks to fully off-gas in enclosed spaces, and the vapours might wreak havoc on synthetic rubber / foam surrounds.

Indeed! Remember when the relatively expensive NHT 12" sub driver was the 'hot ticket'? Put one in a doped cab used for years with an Altec prosound doped cloth surround with no problems, but the NHT didn't last long, though admittedly it was worked over pretty good by low B pipe organ symphony CDs.

Seems like I posted about it on the basslist............. anyway, long time ago and have to wonder if the new synthetics are impervious.

I think it's solvent based. it looks like i'll be in for a long wait before reassembly. been 3 days and a thick puddle at the bottom still isn't firm. from what i have read the danger to drivers is mostly in sealed boxes.
