Hammerdynamics did, or at least with a bar across the main unit.

Potential issues with reflections, diffraction presumably put some people off. And since this is the Fullrange part of the forum, it largely concentrates on wideband drive units, so other than occasionally a supporting tweeter on a big widebander such as the aforementioned Hammer design, you don't tend to see it a great deal in this particular section.

Hi,
Scottmoose is spot on this can't be seen as fullrange anymore.

There is a lot of comercial product's like that but they are considered as coaxials or just are.

Derived from the Urei coax you have for example:
Sceptre S8 | Fonctionnalites | PreSonus
TQ Install Products | Fulcrum Acoustic

Both use fir treatment to solve diffraction from horn. The 'treatment' is developped by Fulcrum and licenced to Presonus.
In diy you could try something like that but it'll be labor intensive and you'll need a lot of lab gear for success ( mic, analyzer,...). Could be done if you are whealthy enough...

More inline with your idea.
musikelectronic geithain gmbh - Home
Excellent sounding studio monitors with clever design ( some are cardioid passive design).
Obviously those are not fullrangers ( usually threeway).

And pushed to an extreme:
La Sphere
Here again not fullranger this is a 4way. There is a 15" inside the sphere and the visible driver is a three way driver with annular section and a mated tweeter in the center.

For diy Gethain way could be used but with a 15" you'll have to find a fullranger which is ok to work dipole locate it in front of the 15" and xover low enough. You'll still have to deal with diffraction though. A kind of coax f.a.s.t/ w.a.w. approach. Even if a two way still not a fullranger though.

The issue with a tweeter/ large driver will be to match directivity and be outside of breakup range for the woofer. Not easy to solve.
