Default need advice.

I would like some opinions,on the best 8" full range speaker. What 8" speaker has the clearest mid range on vocals. I listen to mostly female jazz vocals. Thank you for any expert opinions.-RUDY

It's been asked before - maybe you will find some clues here:
What's the best 8" fullrange that you've heard?

That's always a very tough question as it's so driver, enclosure, room, amp, source depended for a good variety of single FR drivers. I haven't heard a lot of the 8" full range drivers, but of the three I have heard I'd say the Fostex 206 ESR was the best. I forget the enclosure but they were powered by a pair of 45 tube amps. Haven't heard any of the really expensive stuff in that category, just the regular Fostex fe 206, the ESR 206, and and perhaps a pair of Radio Shack ones way back when I was a teen in a pair of speakers I had.
Cheers,
Dave

Hi Rudy,

before I finally bought my FERTIN 21M8EX, I´ve heard (and still have) several FR drivers, but your question is hard to answer.
If you give a few more details (budget, planned application, room, electronics), it would be a bit easier to suggest a few drivers...

All the best

Mattes

The best drivers for mid and female vocals are all smaller than 8”.

Yeah, to adequately cover a male's voice requires an octave on each side of a ~100-16 kHz BW, so for even distribution of power:

[50-32,000]^0.5 = ~1265 Hz

SoS/pi/~1265 = ~3.41" effective diameter or ~5.5" frame and go larger or smaller depending on how much lows Vs highs 'bias' you prefer.
