I assume it is glued on to the base of the basket. I am concerned about using heat near the magnet, or loosening the glue on the spider.

I am considering taping over the basket vents then drilling a small hole between where I think the basket and top piece is, so I can feel around, then sawing it off. I just hope the pole piece isn't vented..

Initial Report....

The cup is glued at the bottom to the bucking magnet. This is a ring magnet smaller than, and glued to, the bottom piece of the motor. The cup also contacts the top piece but is not glued to it.

I think I'll try quickly heating the base of the next one and twisting it off..

It seems the bucking magnet would rather be cleaved than release at the glued joint. A clean blow with a cold chisel made a good enough single cleave.

I can now set the baffle some 1.5cm or more further back into the angle bracket.
