Couldn't see any coverage numbers in the specs for that paint - at approx 32sq ft of surface area per pair by my calculation, the paint could get costly - not to mention the hours of prep and priming to ensure a seamless paint job. I think I'll stick with the P-lam.

2m x 2m coverage per bottle (approx 43 sq.ft).

Fair enough, but it's the huge amount of time and materials required to prep shop grade BB plywood exposed edges and faces for a perfect paint job that always dissuades me. Plastic laminate is far more forgiving in that regard.

In the 1970s there was a TL design by Chris Rogers (I think) which used laminate as a way of adding additional stiffening to the enclosure.

With 18mm BB plywood throughout, the two full length holey braces and three layers of material along each side, I’m thinking these will be plenty stiff. My back certainly is after wrestling with the boxes over this past weekend. Just awaiting some final clarification from Scott and Dave on damping scheme before auditioning prior to buttoning them up and skinning with the laminate- even with a removable bottom, it would be very awkward to access the full internal height should any tweaking be required.

That was a trick i also used — laminate insode and out over 5/8” medite) before i rediscovered Chris and BB became our 1st choice of build material.

Colin said Eikona needs break-in… i sure hope he is wrong.

We’ll let them break-in for the next week and listen seriously again. I won’t comment on the sound unless requested. One thing we will probably need to do is add some more acoustastuff (we only installed half of what Scott specified since we have had to remove stuffing in the past).

Dave - I think you meant to say “ Colins says they don’t need break-in” -at least in the order of the hundreds of hours that we’ve come accept as standard for Alpairs- so we’re quite a few days yet from making a fair assessment.

Hi Dave,

I found that my pair did change for the better after some break in. At first the upper end seemed a bit muted, but after some break in they opened up and became very transparent. In my application I thought they sounded better with a zobel.

Paul what type of amplification are you using? I can't see a zobel doing anything with typical ss power.

I'm using a Pass Sony VFET class A amp. The difference is subtle, but seems more focused and controlled.
