Doesn't look too hard to take apart but the unit is a two way, if you just drop a fullrange in there it will only get the mid-range down I'd imagine?

When you look how it's mounted, the original driver is the best fit. Might need some chopping and grinding before any regular 3" will fit and it would be best to replace both of them. And that's just the physical part...
The enclosure has passive radiator and without any details it's impossible say what 3" driver would have suitable parameters to work.
