Hi guys, thought I would share my project for camping this summer. It was a really straight forward easy build. Which gives excellent sound and good bass to about 70-80hz - tuneable as it is a sealed design with the tone controls or eq on your source device.

I simply put a 12" fane 12-250tc full range driver into a 25 litre sealed box with a 12v lithium motorbike battery and a 12v lepei t-amp. I wired speaker posts to the battery with a switch so I can charge it with an external charger, and made a stereo to mono cable with some resistors to give good stereo summing.

Anyway with the high sensitivity of the fane driver and the tone controls you can get hours of loud high quality sound from a single charge.

Photos speak louder than words anyway:

Hi, yep, I am shocked by how good the 250tc is! It is best with a little eq, but it sounds fantastic!

Freddi - yep I am only using one channel of the little amp, I built a cable using a stereo 3.5mm jack which terminates in a single rca plug. You can buy adaptors but they don't have any resistors and can damage the stereo source device. I followed the recommended schematic attached.

Love it!

I have a pair of TABAQs powered by a TPA3116, and a emergency car battery (about the same size as your motorcycle battery) and love the setup as well.

I like how compact the 12 fane can be. I think I'll try something similar, so, if we meet, we could have stereo! Ha!

I presume you go camping along way away from other people so they don't have to hear your music selection...............

Lol! My wife said the same... But there is a volume control and of course if you are using a fraction of a watt, a single charge will last a long time....

I can get a 22 liter box cheap - do you think that would work ok?

Yep, and if you stuff it with rockwall you'll get another 20% ish volume. Perfect for sealed alignment for a boom box! F3 around 70hz.

I'm glad you are happy with it.

Since qts was tested around .8, you probably don't want to hear about "ideal" box size.

I'm happy with 3ft3 sealed but am curious what 6ft3 sealed or ported would be like.

Dollars to fun, this driver is worth it !!!

Oh I know it will have a high QTC - but actually given it will be mainly used outside, I have found the higher F3 of 70 is a good thing to limit excursion, and the slight bass 'hump' due to the high QTC is no bad thing - doing low bass outside requires serious equipment! Anyway - it does require some EQ - I find a slight boost of bass and a slight turn down of treble and it is a delight!

If I were using it inside - I would have a very different enclosure. I am just so impressed that this large 12" driver can reach up so high and sound so good.

Yup.

Hey fred, could you knock a 2,800hz notch filter out and measure it ?

Or anyone with measuring stuff ?

I'm using -6db@2khz on my reveiver, think it needs a bit more, but that's all my onkyo can do.

Wonder what a phase plug would do..........
