Audio Nirvana Classic 12 and Classic 15: how new are these?

I just happened to be looking around at audio websites during the last few days and noticed that some new models have appeared at Audio Nirvana since I was there last. Most noticeably the 'classic' line has expanded to include 12- and 15-inch models, in both ferrite and alnico versions. In addition, there is now a whole range of 'horn' models that have very unusual cones, as if a horn was built in. I haven't looked at that website for a year, but I can't find any comments on these models so I'm wondering if these are actually brand new and no one's noticed? I'll provide links to the T/S specs to save everyone from navigating that impossible site. ;)

I can't answer your questions? But if I had a answer for you? I would call David dicks the owner of Audio Nirvana and ask him? A lot of diyers here seem to like his drivers and they look cool and are built nice. Also I know David has put a lot of time and effort with having his own full range drivers built for him. If you are wondering am a fostex and Tang Band guy. Nothing personal against A.N. Drivers with their maker or owners. Good luck Jm

According to the Wayback Machine, it appears they were announced sometime between 5-2 and 8-28-13:

In addition to our regular models, we are now introducing a revolutionary new speaker......the Audio Nirvana 'Classic Series'.

A fullrange speaker that uses no whizzer cone or phase plug and yet still reaches 20,000 hz.

A special proprietary design makes this possible.

Haven't gotten any viruses, though it didn't work for me for a long time, then when it came back in '04 all the earlier stuff saved was gone, or at least I don't know how to access it if it's still 'buried' there.

For instance, there use to be an incredible amount of early video, musical recordings to watch, download that I've been unable to find.

Thanks for the info. Maybe my old computer was not protected? Also yes I noticed it was missing things that use to be there like pictures and videos like you did. Well I wish some one could rekindle the way back machine. It was far out or way to cool when it was working at 100%. Jm

In every room a heard fostex and AN, AN always overpeform 166en, 166sigma, 206en and 207, not only for my ears. But AN also most critical to source and amp quality. Didn't hear TB yet, may be they do better...

That's awesome to hear. Well not to get into details but, I sent my 2 pairs of A.N. Drivers back when Common Sense first started years ago. No hard feels but, maybe I will try them in the near future if anything am building calls upon it? I never had a bad fostex driver in all the years I bought them. Also if you enjoyed the A.N. Drivers then I would pull the plug and buy them. Also you can contact Dave from planet 10 hifi. I know he mods the fostex and Mark Audio drivers. I have bought a few pairs from him. He knows what he is doing and he's one of the most respected persons on this forum I trust and that is saying a lot. Also Tang Band has a few hidden Jems that I found. Well Right now I am working with a few of their drivers for a project of mine. Well Good luck and enjoy. Mr. Jeff

(without listening) I'd say so long as you don't mind losing a bit of dispersion, the "classic" should sound better (less ringing whizzer anyway). But I also know a whizzer (done right) can be made to bring down the climbing response of a cone driver.

I think someone here liked the classic 10 over the whizzered 10".

I think the super 8" cast frame has a climbing response that would require an equalizer, but listening off axis should smooth it right out.

Question? Which speaker company has done the whizzer cone right on a full range driver? Where it brings down the climbing response of the cone driver? Mr. Jeff

Bud Purvine looked carefully at the AN15 and he liked the whizzer - said it was one of the best implementations he's ever seen. He compared the AN15 to an electrostatic - clearly he's a fan of this driver. I have one in an open backed box and find it performs well. Treble is not perfect of course, but boy there is very little compromise here given the wall of sound this driver produces when asked. And I'm driving it tonight with a 650mW Single Ended triode-wired pentode Spud amplifier.

Right, this to me is how 'full-range' OBs should be damped when the baffle + room boundary isn't large enough to contain its BW to low enough for the rear wave to only damp the driver's Fs and/or when BW limited to the ~ mids in a multi-way.

One must be very careful with Audio Nirvana's published T/S parameters.
I have owned both the super 12 and super 8 stamped frame drivers, and besides the fact that they sounded dreadful (tried several enclosures and amps, including a high end SE EL34), the T/S parameters were all over the place.
David is very good at marketing his products but the quality and consistency at the time (some 4 years ago) was really lacking...
Never tried the horn ones though.
Let us know how they sound if you pull the trigger.
