It seems a win or win situation. Nice!

Just one more thing: Will it be needed a cap to protect the FR85wk from some unwanted turn on/off pop noise seeing its very low xmax?

We didn't use any but one could protect (XO in the MTM is passive, in Tysen it was PLLXO), it would need to be large & i wouldn't use anything but poly, it will degrade the sonics.

Hi Dave, sorry to digress slightly but would you choose the FF85wk over the FE83En in an open baffle system on top of a woofer box?

thanx,

thanx,
I'm not qualified to answer this question but I do believe I read the FE83 does not work well in a bass reflex. I'm assuming this means maybe it's better in an open baffle.

When you are using a FR as a mid-tweeter in an OB it makes little difference how you wouldoptimally load it in an attempt to maximize the bass.

Updates:

FF85wk are at home and have already been tested in cardboard baffles. Even not in the best conditions, I have tested them crossed from 300 to 650, from 6db to 48db, underlaped to overlaped... and did not find the magic, sound was very thin.

Something very extrange that I was not able to investigate because wife asked to remove "those ugly things on top of the speakers" after 3-4 days. Things were acceptable with female voices, but male voices seemed to come from a totally diferent speaker at a diferent timing (if this makes sense).

Drivers were not broken-in when tested, so I will do tests again in future -when job let me more free time-. Now listening again with usual configuration RS225+SB29 crossed at 1440 @ 48db and sounds much better, much bodied and less fatiguing.
