The forum software has been known to resize large image files, ...
I have never seen it change file byte-count or pixel-count.
It does several display tricks to keep it inside the window. Sometimes refresh will make it reconsider the display size, often it does not. (The several browsers play their own games too.)
These 4 and 5 thousand pixel wide images are probably far beyond what the forum code was made for, which may be why it is thrown to a new window/tab when opened from thumbnail.
Meanwhile I *just* launched my first SSD, cloned from an old spinning-rust drive which was low-bid some years ago. Whoa, this makes a difference in speed and also sound.

That worked great!Resized with "Paint" in Windows 10
On Windoze I've used IrfaView for years. It's free, fast and works great. A little old fashioned looking, but if that helps the speed I'm all for it. It's my default image viewer and resizer.

PRR, congratulations on the SSD. It's hard to believe the difference they make. I've always been one to reduce noise and soundproof computers. With passive cooling and no HDD it's so peaceful. Now to replace my fluorescent light ballasts
Image file sizes. I took a screenshot (not shown) and uploaded it. Not only did it get downsized but changed from a PNG to a JPEG.
